Winter Scenes from Wyoming

We decided to spend New Years at the cabin this year in Wyoming.  When we arrived it was -20 Fahrenheit, so we spent most of the time indoors but were able to get out in the afternoons to enjoy some fresh air.  My favorite time to shoot is just before sunset so I stopped at a few places in Thayne and Afton of places that caught my eye.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Green Bay Packers

Today’s configuration: Sony RX100 II, Canon 5D Mark III.

Now that the Superbowl hype is over I figured it’s time to post some images from my recent trip to Green Bay, WI.  I had an opportunity of a lifetime to attend a game at Lambeau Field on December 22nd for the Steelers vs. Packers.  I was there supporting the Steelers and was pleasantly surprised by the generosity by the devoted packer fans even though the Steelers won.  The day before the game we were able to go on a tour of the stadium and learn about the history behind the name Lambeau.  One thing that stood out during the tour was that the stadium can seat 80,000+ fans and the population of Green Bay is a little over 100,000.  This town and surrounding areas are devoted Packer fans.  I now have a new respect for the Packers and the fans of Green Bay.  I’ve included a few of my favorite images, enjoy.

Evening Sun

Canon XTi * Canon EF-24-105mm f/4.0 lens * ISO 100 * 1/200 second * f/4.0

While waiting for the sun to set to light up the fresh layer of snow on the Wasatch Mountains for this shot, I glanced over my shoulder to find this. I love how the sun is reflecting off the glass and onto the water. Even though this looks peaceful and calm it was a very cold winter day.

Snow Shack

Canon XTi * Canon EF-24-105mm f/4.0 lens * ISO 100 * 1/1250 second * f/4.0

On my drive around Antelope Island State Park the other day this shack caught my eye. I probably wouldn’t have given it much thought if the snow wasn’t stuck to the side of the building. The night before we had a pretty good snow storm and by examining the photo you can tell that the the snow was horizontal for a while. The wind was still blowing when I took this photo and was drifting around the shack and on the road. It was certainly a day for taking pictures from the car. On my drive I saw quite a few jackrabbits, bison, hawks and a coyote. Antelope Island is a quick ten minute drive from my house and provides something new for me to photograph each time I visit.
